Kedar S. Mate, MD, Appointed to Blue Shield of California Board of Directors
Blue Shield of California announced on Aug. 10, 2026, that it has appointed Kedar S. Mate, MD, to its Board of Directors. Dr. Mate is the chief medical officer of Qualified Health AI, a company focused on AI deployment in healthcare, and the former president and CEO of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
Dr. Mate has advised organizations including the World Health Organization and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. His governance experience includes board service with MLK Community Health System, Healthcare Excellence Canada, and involvement with the National Academy of Medicine's Artificial Intelligence Code of Conduct initiative.
He currently practices internal medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital, serves on the faculty of Weill Cornell Medicine, and is a senior scholar at Stanford University's Clinical Excellence Research Center. Board Chair Pamela DeCoste noted in a statement that Dr. Mate's experience would bring "valuable perspective" to the nonprofit health plan.
