Sutter Eden Medical Center names Sumbella Baqai chief medical executive
Sumbella Baqai, MD, has been named chief medical executive of Sutter Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, Calif., effective Oct. 12, according to a Sept. 14 news release cited by Becker's Hospital Review.

Baqai returns to Eden, where she joined as a hospitalist in 2012 and later held leadership roles including chair of the department of medicine, vice chair of medicine and chair of the utilization management committee. She has served as chief medical executive at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital in California since 2024.
In the role, Baqai will serve as the hospital's senior physician executive and work with interim CEO and chief nurse executive Jonathan Judy-del Rosario. Rob Nordgren, MD, chief medical officer of Sutter Health's Greater San Francisco and East Bay division, said in the release that Baqai returns with experience as a chief medical executive at Sutter Tracy and a deep understanding of Eden from more than a decade there.
Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health serves more than 3.5 million Californians and has more than 14,500 physicians and advanced practice clinicians, per the report.
